Ginger and morning sickness

Morning sickness is very common to pregnant women. Medical experts say that it is a normal experience for pregnant women. It is something that we should not worry about. However, morning sickness may be such a hassle and inconvenient.

Many women have searched and used different methods on how to treat and stop nausea and excessive vomiting during pregnancy. Some used certain medications prescribed by their physicians. Others would use essential oils, teas, acupuncture, and other methods. What most pregnant women don’t know is that the cure can be found right in their own kitchens. Ginger has been proven to be very effective in treating nausea as well as vomiting.

Ginger has been used for cooking and medicine for over a thousand of years now. This is generally safe. Even doctors, midwives, and other health or medical practitioners will recommend the use of ginger to alleviate the problems of morning sickness. One gram of ginger per day is the recommended dosage. It can be made into a hot ginger tea or you may chew it if preferred. Other pregnant women would even opt to buy ginger dietary supplements for this purpose. Be warned, though, that when buying ginger supplements, it should be duly recognized and approved by government agencies that are responsible for evaluating the authenticity of drugs and medications.

Some medical experts would discourage the use of ginger during pregnancy. They said that ginger contains the enzyme thromboxane synthetase that is suspected to influence sex steroid demarcation in the brain of the fetus. But, until now this remains to be a theory and there have been no studies or researches conducted yet to prove gingers negative effects on pregnant women.

Numerous researches have proved the effectiveness of ginger in terms of treating pregnant women’s morning sickness and nausea. In fact, these studies revealed that ginger is effective even if taken at tea or in supplementary capsules. Its medicinal effects and benefits can still be enjoyed even if ginger used an ingredient in home cooking. Ginger can also be taken by pregnant women as the main ingredient in ginger snap cookies. It is recommended however to consult the doctor before using ginger during pregnancy so ensure that no ginger-related allergies will arise.
