The sebaceous gland, the gland responsible for keeping the skin properly oiled overworks due to a fungus called the Pityrosporum ovale which is a naturally occurring yeast-like organism. The overgrowth of yeast results to dandruff. There are also other causes of dandruff and her are some of them:
- Excessive use of hair sprays, gels, electric curlers
- Improper use of hair coloring products
- Infrequent shampooing of the hair and inadequate rinsing
- Stress, tension and anxiety
- Genetics
The three main symptoms of dandruff are flaking, itching and redness. Flaking, the first symptom is the most embarrassing sign of dandruff. This is the key signal that shows the skin cells on your scalp are shedding and being replaced. Excessive itching is another sign and this is caused by the dry flakes. Redness only takes place in severe cases of dandruff where there is inflammation of the scalp.
Most cases of dandruff can be treated with specializes anti-dandruff shampoos and common home remedies. Here are some treatments that you can do yourself:
- Lime – you can use fresh lime juice in order to treat dandruff. All you have to do is take one lime and squeeze out its juice. Apply this juice over your hair with your fore finger and middle finger. This will not only help you get rid of dandruff but it will also help your hair glow.
- Beets – beets were found to be very useful and effective when it comes to treating dandruff for so many years now. In order to do this, you should use both the tops and roots and boil it in water. This should be massaged over the scalp with the use of your finger tips every night for a faster cure.
- Apple cider vinegar – you can wash your hair with apple cider vinegar in order to treat your dandruff. After washing cover your head with a shower cap and leave it that way for about 30 minutes. Then rinse your hair properly after. This should be done two times a week until the dandruff is completely gone.
