There are many benefits of antioxidants; they are called the anti-aging compounds or the fountain of youth. They work by scavaging free radicals in your body. Free radicals are created by daily life and are increased in our body when we ingest toxins, breath in toxins or even just have a stressful event. With the way society is right now that means we create a lot of free radicals. Now luckily we can take antioxidants as pills to help combat these free radicals, but just as in vitamins it is always better to find ways of ingesting antioxidants in a more natural form. Your body absorbs antioxidants better when they come from a food source, just like vitamins are much better digested, absorbed and thus utilized if they come from food sources rather than from a synthetic pill.
Some of the food sources for antioxidants include raisins, prunes, pomegranate (especially the juice), mangosteens, and many others. Well for those Italians and others that like to eat bread and oil - Olive Oil is an excellent source of antioxidants. B. Shubbard wrote a small article about oleocanthal, the antioxidant in olive oil, and its discovery here at Adverse Reactions Check it out.
