Sleep is very important when it comes to surviving each day. All efforts towards mental and physical fitness will be useless if you are not getting enough sleep. In fact, sleep deprivation will only cause you to have a lot of sicknesses not only physically but mentally as well. Memory damage and reduced physical performance can take place especially if sleep deprivation is continuous and would lead to more harmful consequences.
Sleeping disorders is turning out to be a main problem in majority of the population from teens to adults. In this time and age where everything is fast paced and there are more pressures and stress, lack of sleep is turning out to be a major health problem. If you are one of these people then all you have to do is to improve your sleeping habits so that the chances of getting at least six to eight hours of sleep is increased.
One way to improve your sleeping habit is to take a look at your sleeping environment and do some improvements if you need to. Ideally, a good sleeping environment should be dark, quiet and well ventilated. The temperature must be comfortable as well. If you need more air then slightly open your windows. Your bed must also be large enough to accommodate your body frame and your mattresses should be comfortable.
You can also take light snacks before bedtime in order to promote a feeling of drowsiness. There are foods that can help you feel sleepy – they contain amino acids called tryptophan that helps calm down the brain which will allow you to have better sleep quality. Examples of these foods include low fat yogurt, warm milk, bananas and a cup of chamomile tea.
You can also have luxurious hot baths to help you feel comfortable before bedtime. You can make milk baths, or have your own spa recipe in your bathroom. Hot baths will easily help relieve you of any stress and would help you forget your problems. This will lead to better sleep.
Take note that when you miss sleep, you get to compromise your health, your ability to learn and the quality of your life.
